These factors are part of a 100-point grid used to assess eligibility for the Federal Skilled Worker Program and points are earned on each of the 6 factors. The current pass mark is 67 points, and a candidate must score a minimum of this pass mark to proceed into the express entry pool.

Once the Candidate meets eligibility requirements and is in the express entry pool, then the highest-ranking candidates from the pool are invited to apply for permanent residence. Once the Candidate has been successfully picked as a Federal Skilled Worker Class, both the principal applicant and their family members, whether accompanying or not, must complete medical examinations if required, and pass criminal and security checks to be eligible to come to Canada.

Federal Skilled Trades Programme (FST)-  This Programme also uses the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to rank interested candidates against one another, only inviting the most competitive candidates to apply for Canadian permanent resident. Minimum requirements for eligibility include:

  • meeting the required language levels for each language ability
    • writing
    • reading

    • speaking

  • meeting the job requirements for the skilled trade as set out in the National Occupational Classification, except for needing a certificate of qualification
  • having a

Canada is a wealthy multicultural society with a highly developed social support system, a diverse population, and incredible natural resources. As a result, it is a highly attractive destination for people from all around the world. It is a place where all people; cultures; and religions are treated equally and fairly as everyone has his/her basic rights to living spelled out in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedom. Millions of people have migrated to Canada over the years and Canada is still very receptive and welcoming people all over the world. Canada’s Immigration scheme is founded on three main pillars which are: economic, family, and humanitarian grounds. These pillars balance the country’s economic interests with its generosity and compassionate willingness to provide a safe haven to people in need from around the world.

The express entry application process is for skilled immigrants who want to settle in Canada permanently and take part in the Canadian economy. They must meet the requirements spelled out under the Canadian Express entry system.

Express Entry manages applications for three economic immigration programs:

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program
  • Canadian Experience Class

Provinces and territories can also recruit candidates from the Express Entry pool through the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) to meet local labour market needs.

Federal Skilled Worker Programme (FSW)- This program is for skilled workers with foreign work experience who want to immigrate to Canada permanently. This is traditionally the most popular category of the Express Entry Class.  Federal  Skilled Worker Class utilizes a selection factor point system to assess a candidate’s eligibility for the Programme and candidates must meet the minimum requirements in order to be able to apply. The program has minimum requirements for skilled work experience, Language ability and Education.

Once the candidates meet all the minimum requirements, then the IRCC applies some selection factors such as age, education, work experience, Valid job offer, English and/or French language skills, and adaptability.
